On the afternoon of November 7, Ren Xianliang, vice chairman of the Social Construction Committee of the National People’s Congress and chairman of China Federation of Internet Societies (CFIS), met Pony Ma, vice chairman of the CFIS and the chief executive officer of Tencent in Wuzhen. They held in-depth exchange on promoting the development of the CFIS and Internet enterprises.
Ren Xianliang made an introduction to the background of the CFIS, and the responsibilities and major activities carried out by the CFIS since its establishment. He affirmed the achievements of Tencent as a world Internet leader and its work done in fulfilling the primary responsibilities of an enterprise, and gave thanks to Pony Ma and Tencent for their support to the CFIS.
Ren Xianliang said since the establishment of the CFIS, it had closely focused on the overall situation of national development and the work of Cyberspace Administration of China. It actively guided the Internet societies and Internet enterprises to strengthen the leadership of the Party, to spread the positive energy of the Internet, to promote cyberspace governance and to strengthen industry self-discipline. The federation also had successively hosted 2018 China Internet Media Forum and 2018 International Digital Economy Expo, organized a series of thematic activities on Internet integrity and the 2018 China Internet Integrity Conference, and promoted the poverty-alleviation of online social organizations. The above activities all achieved satisfying results. He hoped Pony Ma, as the vice chairman of the CFIS, would give more concern and support to the development of the federation and make more contribution to the healthy development of online social organizations and Internet enterprises.
Pony Ma thanked the Cyberspace Administration of China, the CFIS, as well as the Chairman Ren Xianliang for their trust in himself and Tencent. He believed that the establishment of the CFIS is important and timely. Currently, the Internet has integrated into all aspects of life, thus the problems faced by Internet enterprises are no longer the problems among Internet enterprises. A neutral third-party is needed to coordinate their relations with the society and government supervisory agencies. The CFIS, as the bridge among government agencies, online social organizations and Internet enterprises, could sort out the common problems of Internet enterprises and organize the concerned departments to study and discuss them together to promote the healthy development of those enterprises while solving the problem of social governance. He said that Tencent would give full support to and cooperate with the CFIS to make positive contribution to the development of online social organizations and the Internet industry.
